FILM: CASABLANCA

Casablanca is a 1942 American film directed by Michael Curtiz. It tells a romantic drama in the Moroccan city of Casablanca, area of mobilization of refugees from the conflict, seeking an exit to Portugal or the United States, under the control of the Vichy government. The film, based on the play Everybody Comes to Rick's, by Murray Burnett and Joan Alison, stars Humphrey Bogart as Rick Blaine and Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa Lund.It is one of the best rated films of the American cinema, winner of several Oscars, including the best film in 1943. Casablanca had a solid start but not spectacular . However, it was increasing in popularity as time passed and it placed among the first places in the best movie lists.

The film starts in the Moroccan city of Casablanca,Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), an American citizen who has been expatriated, runs the business of "Rick's Café".One day, Ugarte, a thief known by Rick, shows up at his bar carrying valuable documents that turn out to be safe conduct, with which anyone could arrive in Lisbon, the only neutral port during the war that could take them to the United States. Before being able to sell them, he is stopped by the police. Before disappearing, Ugarte entrusts the documents to Rick. Rick's situation gets complicated in Casablanca when an old lover named Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) appears in his bar, who left him in Paris for her husband, Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid), who accompanies him in the city. Laszlo turns out to be a leader of the Czech resistance who, knowing that Rick has the safe conduct, intends to take both. When Louis stops Victor for a misdemeanor, Rick tells him that he can free him for this theft, in order to stop him for safe-conduct traffic. When Louis goes to arrest Victor, Rick points a gun at him, uncovering his alibi. The film ends at an airfield, where Louis, Rick, Ilsa and Victor are. Ilsa and Victor end up boarding the plane that will take them away from Casablanca. The main characters of this film are IIsa Lund, Rick Blaine and  Victor Laszlo. I think that the purpose of this film is to teach how people live during the second world war. My favourite character in the movie has been IIsa Lund because I think that she was very expressive and she performed very good scenes as for example in the scene where there is a boy playing the piano and singing while IIsa was listening to him .  It represented a romantic scene. What I like most of this film  has been that  the story was very good developed and that the actors performed very well. However, what I like least about the film is that we could see that there was a lot of male chauvinism during the story.

I like very much the actors work as I have told what I liked best about the film is how the actors performed. However I think that the soundtrack in this film was terrible because sometimes the sound was very loud and othertimes it was very low. The camera and photography angle was very good because the scenes were very good filmed.

In conclusion, I think that watching this film I have learned a lot of things about the war and how the population have  to manage during the war trying to survive. First I thought that I wouldn't like the film because it was very old but in the end I like it. In my opinion this movie is in the given list because it has a lot of things to learn.
